Studio HCE Virtual Gallery invites you to join us in an investigation into social space. Travel a synchronized path with others while engaging with the streets and architecture of your own city.
In the tradition of relational art practices, CIRCUMNAVIGATION will be a direct response to the virtual relationships of the internet and our use of space in the real world. Taking instruction via live twitter feed, participants follow directional cues while documenting the journey in written or visual format to create alternative ‘maps’ of the city. Following the event, submitted ‘maps’ will be posted to the website for all to enjoy.
To take off on your own circumnavigatory adventure all you will need is access to a live twitter feed, something to document your journey, and quite possibly a coat:
1) sign up to the HCE Twitter feed!
2) Choose your starting point, be it your place of work, your local supermarket, your favorite pub or your own front door.
3) As you are guided via another’s influence, discover a whole new world within your familiar home place.
4) Document the journey through photographs, drawings, journal entries, poetry (whatever you like!) to create an alternative ‘map’ of your everyday space.
5) Submit your finished ‘map’ to events@hercircleezine.com.

My inspiration for the Circumnavigation project came from a mini project that myself and a friend started after she moved to London. We create journeys for the other to go on and document in a mini moleskin notebook that we post back and forth to each other.
It also developed out of my interest for how art is the oldest means of human expression and yet it can adapt so easily with the modern world and the technological advances of today.
As an existentialist, I am fascinated by individual human existence and like the idea of people from every corner of the globe partaking in the same activity at the same moment in time.
