How do we write about personal experience? We all know that everyday life is a rich source of writing material, but tapping into this source can at times seem impossible. Whether a new or seasoned writer, this 2 hour workshop will provide you with a powerful tool to tackling this challenging writing task. Using a ‘table of contents’ method, you will identify key life events from which your workshop piece will be based.
Alison Mandaville is a visiting Assistant Professor in Literature, Creative Writing, and Women Studies at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington (USA). She received her MFA in Creative Writing and PhD in Literature from the University of Washington.

The work of Montreal based artist Kirsten McCrea uses pop and underground culture, the media, and popular mythologies to explore explores issues of cultural memory. ‘Hot Topic’ is a series of 60 paintings that turn traditional portraiture on it’s head. Gone is the solitary genius, here replaced with a wall of underground superstars. The goal of the project is to engage in a form of activism that is not critical of dominant culture, but instead celebratory of feminist culture and alternative social movements.
