The Independent Publisher’s Gold Medal for Regional Fiction has been awarded to Deborah Lee Luskin for her debut novel Into the Wilderness (White River Press, 2010). Set in 1964 Vermont, Into the Wilderness is described by Luskin as a love story.
Luskin has written several guest blogs for The Writer’s Life on Her Circle Ezine. Recently, she wrote about the value of writing groups, as she has been involved in a variety of writing groups and values the feedback she receives during group writing exercises. Luskin also wrote a guest blog about using Skype to connect with reading groups.
Luskin’s first guest blog post for Her Circle was about living in Vermont. She relocated to Vermont from New York City in 1984, and has been writing about Vermont since that time. After earning a PhD in English Literature from Columbia University, Luskin has taught literature and writing to diverse learners, from Ivy League undergraduates to prison inmates. She is a Visiting Scholar for the Vermont Humanities Council, an essayist, a skilled technical writer, and a regular commentator for Vermont Public Radio.
Luskin will travel to New York City on May 23 to attend the Fifteenth Annual IPPY Award Ceremony, where she will be presented with her Gold Medal for Regional Fiction—US—Northeast.
Deborah Lee Luskin is a writer by vocation and a Vermonter by choice. Into the Wilderness is her first published novel. Learn more at www.deborahleeluskin.com
