Thank you for your response, Kate Robinson. I guess it is true that we often find what we are looking for when we are not looking for it. I came to Portland just to get away from my family and found a home. I never count on anything, but so far things are working out very well.

Thanks, L. George! I appreciate your story of your moves, and how you have found a place. That takes some people longer than others. I am still searching, yet have pretty good ideas about what will work best. Your story gives me hope!

I have moved many times from my home town of San Diego, California. My last move was to escape a plundered house by family members while I was overseas working. They did what they wanted to do giving away books, paintings, jewelry. They ripped up the carpet and got rid of my furniture. I was heart broken when I got back after one year teaching. I looked at Redding, California and decided that I did not want to live there anymore. So, instead of following husband with children in tow; I left with one pick-up worth of furniture to Portland, Oregon because I always wanted to live here for some vague reason or another. I gave my house to my son since he wanted it so much.

Well, surprise. Portland turned out to be the city of everything I dreamed was important in where I wanted to live. People love to read here and there are book clubs everywhere. It is also someplace where I fit in. Most importantly, I found out the medical problems that my old doctor was telling me meant nothing were very serious and it was corrected in time. I got a new lease in life. I got a great place to live and I did it on my own. Yes, it was different than expected. It was so much better. In May of this year, it will be a year. Except for the gentle rain, it is perfect; however with all this beauty one must expect some negatives. I lived in the Midwest, East Coast and the South where the weather was much worse. I can live with the rain.

Lauren, What an important topic to show—that artwork, in all of its forms, does involve rigorous processes and concentration, skill and dedication, and so much more. Thank you for writing this piece.
